So, you have joined the club. What next?
In Queensland, you must wait at least 6 months after joining a pistol club before you can apply for your Category H licence.
You will also need to compete in at least 3 scheduled matches, and have demonstrated safe firearms handling for City of Brisbane Pistol Club to support an application for your licence.
Don’t worry, every scheduled club matches count toward this requirement. You will have plenty of opportunities to complete the minimum requirement. You should fill out your logbook and have a Range Officer sign-off on every match. You will need this to support your licence application.
Once you are ready to apply for your Category H licence, complete a QP518A with a representative from the club, and start your application online. The timing of this is difficult to gauge and varies between 1 to 3 months.
You can also start your Queensland Police Permit to Acquire (PTA) application process at the same time. See “Buying my first Pistol” for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: You will need your certificate of completion from your Weapons Safety Course for your Category H licence application. The certificate of completion must not be more than 12 months old.
