So, you have joined the club. What next?
In Queensland, you must wait at least six (6) months after joining a pistol club before you can apply for your Category H licence.
You will also need to compete in at least three (3) scheduled club matches, and have demonstrated safe firearms handling for City of Brisbane Pistol Club to support an application for your licence.
You should fill out your Range Book and A4 page for RO comments and have a Range Officer sign-off on every match. You will need these to support your licence application.
Once you have met the requirements for your Category H licence, you will need to apply to the club online for the following supporting documents:
- Approved Club Declaration (QP518A)
- Club Financial Letter
We require scanned copies of the following documents to process your application:
- Your signed range book showing at least three (3) scheduled matches in the last six (6) months
Allow up to 7 days for your supporting documents to be processed and sent back to you.
Once you have received your supporting documents from the club, you can start your application online. The timing of this is difficult to gauge and varies between 1 to 3 months.
You can also start your Queensland Police Permit to Acquire (PTA) application process at the same time. See “Buying a Pistol” for more information.
PLEASE NOTE: You will need your certificate of completion from your Weapons Safety Course for your Category H licence application. The certificate of completion must not be more than 12 months old.
