General

Can I try out the sport before joining?

Of course! Check out our Come and Try section for options and book into a session. No licence required!

What is included with my membership?

Your membership includes all targets, scheduled club matches and unlimited visits.

How long will it take before I can apply for my category H licence?

Queensland legislation requires you to be a member of the club for at least 6 months before applying for your H (concealable) license.  Usually Queensland Police will issue the license within 3 months after receiving your completed application.

How much will my first handgun cost?

This is entirely up to your requirements. Expect to pay between $800 to $4000+ depending on the type, quality and whether it is new or second hand.

What type of handgun can I buy?

As long as you are sufficiently competent to the Club’s satisfaction, you may apply to purchase any type of handgun legally permitted in Queensland for sport target shooting subject to certain restrictions per our Range Approval.  Find out more about buying a pistol.

Can I shoot at the range on my own after I am licensed?

Club Standing Orders require that you must hold a current licence, and complete a Range Operator course or hold Range Officer qualifications in order to be permitted to shoot on your own.  Range Operator courses are held at the club as required.  You do not need to have a license to undertake the Range Operator course.

Who can sign off on my shoots for Air Pistol?

Air pistol shooters who have completed the Range Operator certification may sign off their own shoots as the Range Officer.

What is a Form 33?

A form 33 or 33A is like a day license for people who are unlicensed.  It allows you to meet legal requirements to discharge a firearm on an approved range.  Read more about Form 33’s.

How many ranges are available at COBPC?

What hours are the ranges available to members?

Our Air Pistol Range is open 24/7. Other ranges are open daily from 8am to 5pm. Exceptions apply for some public holidays.

Can I use jacketed ammo?

Yes, jacketed ammo are allowed on our ranges.

Is there a restriction on calibre?

City of Brisbane Pistol Club is approved for  .177 air to .45 calibre centrefire pistols note some larger calibres have the potential to breach our Range Approvals and restrictions may apply.

How do I submit a Range Report?

Members can submit Range Reports online.

Submit a Range Report now!

Range reports are typically completed and submitted to the Club Committee for the following reasons:

  • Safety violation or concerns about member safety
  • Equipment damaged or malfunctioning
  • Conduct unbecoming of a member
  • Violent or aggressive behaviour
  • Other issues requiring committee attention

How do I request for a Club Financial / Referral Letter

You can request for a Club Financial / Referral letter online.

If you are applying for your Category H licence, please follow the instructions on the “Obtaining Your Licence” page. Do not use this form.
