Disciplines

IPSC

IPSC is our most active discipline with regular matches and events suitable for members at all skill levels.

IPSC matches present competitors with a different set of courses of fire, known as stages, every single time they compete. Targets can be placed almost anywhere, and it is up to each competitor to locate all the targets, find where they can be engaged from and in which order, as well as where to reload. All this has to be determined in a brief 3-5 minute walk through and memorised as a plan – then it’s time to go!

On the sound of the buzzer, the competitor leaps into action, trying to engage each target to score as many as points as possible, as quickly as possible. The points scored are divided by the time from the starting buzzer to the last shot fired, giving the overall score. Then it’s onto the next stage to do it all over again.

ISSF

Five of the ISSF pistol disciplines are available to our members:

  • Standard Pistol is shot in three stages.
  • Sport Pistol is shot in two stages; Precision and Rapid Fire.
  • Centre Fire is shot in two stages; Precision and Rapid Fire.
  • Olympic Rapid Fire is shot in two stages; Precision and Rapid Fire.
  • Air Pistol is shot in two stages; Precision and Rapid Fire.

Metallic Silhouette

A precision discipline requiring the competitor to knock down (not just hit) life-size steel silhouettes of Rams, Pigs, Turkeys and Chickens.  This discipline is shot out to a distance of 100 metres using higher calibre pistols and revolvers.

Service Pistol

Targets are engaged at different distances from 50 yards to 7 yards.  Competitors fire groups of 6 shots where the targets will face them for a given amount of time from 4 positions (prone, sitting, right side barricade and left side barricade).  This is a match where speed and precision shooting is combined to challenge your shooting skill. Service Pistol requires accuracy and speed and is commonly shot using revolvers and semi-auto pistols in 9MM or .38 calibres.

Cowboy Action

A type of multigun match utilizing a combination of handgun(s), rifle(s), and/or shotgun(s) in a variety of “Old West-themed” courses of fire for time and accuracy. Participants must dress in appropriate theme or era “costume”.
